Servant of the Lake Puzzle Solutions
Community-documented hub. The Servant of the Lake Demo packs its dependency chain into a handful of tight puzzles: a portrait-driven code, a kitchen stove chain, and a berry-hole insect chase inside Aldous's breakfast bowl. This page collects the reported answers so you can unblock a single step without rereading a full walkthrough. Everything here is player-reported from the free Steam Demo build released October 13, 2025; the full game may introduce new rooms and codes.
Reported Demo codes
235 — the portrait-locked code that releases the sugar for porridge. Players describe the clue as three portrait animations: Aldous's portrait shakes his watch three times, Alexandra's raises two fingers, and William's blinks five times. Community guides report the digit-entry order differently, so confirm the entry order in your own game.
728 — the optional locked-box easter egg before Aldous's room that yields a black bird egg; players report trading the egg with a wall hand for a hint paper. The official site confirms a secret exists in the previews, not its steps.
Porridge recipe chain
The kitchen note reportedly spells out Aldous's preferred method: put the pot on the stove, add milk and oats, add sugar, and heat. Reported ingredient and tool locations: small pot (upstairs right room, shelf above the locked breakfast cabinet), sugar (cabinet opened with code 235), milk (crate near the maid), oats (bowl on the kitchen table), wood (kitchen floor or stove area), and matches (central hall, after giving the dead mouse to the cat).
Reported stove chain: place wood in the stove, light it with matches, close the stove door (an open door prevents heating), set the small pot on top, add milk, add oats, add sugar, then wait for the heat state to resolve and take the pot with the finished porridge. If the porridge will not pick up, audit the stove state and ingredient list.
Insect and berries puzzle
After plain porridge fails Aldous's taste test, berries complete the bowl — but an insect hides beneath them. Players report feeding the severed earlobe to the window bird for a key, adding berries, then manipulating holes until you can squash the bug before spoon-feeding Aldous. The walkthrough covers the full morning gate order.
FAQ
What is the most important Demo code? 235 opens the breakfast cabinet for sugar, which is required for porridge and the morning routine. 728 is optional and only needed for the reported black-bird-egg easter egg.
Why does my porridge pot stay empty after I enter 235? 235 only unlocks sugar; you still need milk, oats, wood, matches, and the small pot. See the porridge chain above.
Does the full game use the same codes? 235 and 728 are reported for the Demo build only; the full release may introduce new combinations.
Why can't I pick up the porridge pot? Check that the fire is lit, the stove door is closed, the pot is on the stove, and milk, oats, and sugar are all inside; missing any one state keeps the pot uncollectible.
Why does Aldous say something is missing after I serve porridge? Berries are required after plain porridge: feed the earlobe to the window bird for the dresser key, add berries, and clear the reported insect puzzle.
Do I need matches before entering the kitchen? Players report yes — light the stove with matches from the hall chair after feeding the dead mouse to the cat; wood alone does not heat the pot.
Is 235 the same as the easter egg code 728? No. 235 comes from the family portraits and opens the sugar cabinet; 728 is a separate optional easter egg combination.
